Skit Day

Exciting morning today at The Senior Station.  The morning started with deep breathing exercises and some light exercises to loosen our limbs.  The quiz today had all members scratching their heads and thinking hard to solve the Word Search puzzle.  They needed to identify names of countries hidden in the jumble of letters.  Amazingly they all did very well and surprisingly were very pleased that their brainpowers were put into full throttle.

Light entertainment was next on the agenda.  Each group performed a skit on the theme “Young at heart”. Their ability to produce such humorous skits, which had us in fits of laughter, was incredible.  We must say we had many star performers worthy of Oscar nominations!

Valentine special

Love was in the air at The Senior Station – This morning we celebrated the season of love with our Valentine’s Day Special. Thank you Hafsa and The Cake Factory for the absolutely delicious heart themed chocolate cake. All the members cut the cake amidst song and good wishes for each other and their loved ones. The Senior Station completed the celebration with a beautiful rose as a give-away for everyone.
Apart from the usual exercises and mind benders, we also tried our hand at a variation of Rangoli, the ancient art of creating designs and filling them in with colourful powder. For everyone’s ease we used rice and pulses to fill in the designs and the results were breath taking. We are really amazed at how much creative talent we have amongst our members!

Let’s do origami

This was our fourth session and we were so happy to see so many members who have been enthusiastically attending The Senior Station from the very being. Since we’ve broken the ice, we decided it’s time to get to know each other better. Sheila Samarasekara  and Nihal De Silva came forward to tell us more  about themselves. Sheila, we learnt  is a talented dress maker, hair stylist and florist. In fact her creations are still very sort after, and she continuous to host sales of the many beautiful things she makes. Nihal, apart from being a very good musician, was an accomplished planter. He regaled us with interesting and funny anecdotes from his days as a tea planter.

The program continued with games like passing the cushion, and word and number puzzles that were deceptively easy. Origami was the highlight today with everyone folding colourful squares of paper to create birds, animals and more. Indeed we still have the child in us, because many members took to making rockets and having rocket flying competitions!!
